District 2, and San Diego, face some difficult challenges. I’m running for office because I want to tackle these problems head up, not kick the can down the road. Below are some of the major issues I see in D2 and how I think we need to handle them.

District 2 is more than the beach. It\u2019s a collection of unique communities with their own distinct feel. Residents here want someone who will not only protect their quality of life, but have a vision to improve it. Whether it\u2019s crime, transportation, police retention, walkability, code enforcement and other issues that have a big day-to-day impact on our community, we need someone who will not kick the can on these topics, but face them head on. This is no time to settle for inertia when there\u2019s so much that can be done.<\/p>\n

Our housing crisis is at the center of so many problems in San Diego – homelessness, congestion, inequality – and needs our urgent attention. We need to fight for smart growth, infill housing and innovation to ensure we don\u2019t lose an entire generation of San Diegans who grew up here but can\u2019t afford to raise a family in their hometown.<\/p>\n

San Diego is in the midst of a catastrophe, one that touches every district in the city. Our exploding homeless population deserves our immediate attention and action. Following a Housing First model with the best interim plans to provide emergency relief, we must act now. This is more than just doing what\u2019s prudent, it\u2019s about the morality of our city and making sure that we\u2019re putting a roof over the heads of our most vulnerable.<\/p>\n

America\u2019s Finest City is already a leader in promoting sustainability and fighting climate change, but we can\u2019t lose momentum. Protecting our natural beauty for future generations of San Diegans by fully-funding our Climate Action Plan, increasing our tree canopy, improving our public transportation and creating more walkable neighborhoods is of the utmost importance.<\/p>\n

District 2 needs a fighter. Someone who will stand up to make the lives of their constituents better. Despite being the postcard San Diego has sent around the world, our beach and bay communities are often forgotten about at city hall. We need someone who will stand up for District 2\u2019s unique neighborhoods and work to make sure their voices are heard on every vote, no matter how tough. Beyond being there for the crucial parts of the job, we need someone who doesn\u2019t forget who put them in office. If elected I promise to make sure no email goes unanswered, no phone call goes unreturned. You may not always agree with my decision, but you\u2019ll know why those decisions were made.<\/p>\n
